The park covers an area of 22 000 square kilometres, of which approximately 4 700 square km is covered by the magnificent Etosha Pan. The Etosha Pan is a flat depression created many years ago by constant geological change. The Park is named after this endless white Pan. The first native tribe at the Park referred to the shimmering mirages on the endless horizon of the park as Etosha.

This park boasts over fifty species of game and over two hundreds bird species. There is a huge population of springboks in the park amongst others. The contrasting vegetation zones of the Etosha National Park make it one of the best game viewing parks in Africa and it is a prime photographic destination boasting some good birding opportunities.

Okavango Delta

After a late breakfast we will travel towards the Mohembo Border on our way to Botswana, another opportunity to drive through the Mahango National Park. For the next three days we will to explore the evergreen Okavango Delta with its abundance of wildlife.

The Okavango Delta in Botswana is a swampy inland delta formed where the Okavango River reaches a tectonic trough in the central part of the endorheic basin of the Kalahari. All the water reaching the delta is ultimately evaporated and transpired and does not flow into any sea or ocean.
The Okavango river originates in the high mountains of Angola. There is something elemental about this Unesco World Heritage site: the rising and falling of its waters; the daily drama of its wildlife encounters; its soundtrack of lion roars, saw-throated leopard barks and the extraordinary birdlife.
Considered one of Nature's masterpieces, the Okavango Delta offers visitors an insight into one of Africa's truly great wildernesses. This vast and virtually untouched freshwater wetland lies at the heart of Botswana's arid Kalahari Desert yet supports an abundance of wildlife within a setting of dazzling natural beauty.
